Rob has been tying flies since 1972 and is renowned for his contributions to Atlantic Salmon and Steelhead patterns. This recognition led to Rob's induction into the World Salmon Fly Tying Hall of Fame as a Master Fly Tyer in 1995.rob-solo.jpg Rob was also named one of Canada's top ten fly tyers by Outdoor Canada in 2002. His fly tying expertise also made him a top choice to co-judge the 2002 Fédération Québécoise pour le Saumon Atlantique's (FQSA) World Fly Tying Championships held last March in Quebec City. Rob has written articles for publications throughout North America, and he regularly contributes to the Newfoundland Sportsman Magazine. Rob is also closely involved in preservation activities on the East Coast, and is a current member and past Executive Director of the Salmon Preservation Association for the Waters of Newfoundland (SPAWN). The waters of Newfoundland and Labrador remain Rob's top destinations for fly fishing, where he enjoys pursuing Atlantic Salmon and Brook Trout. In Canada Post’s 2005 Fishing Flies stamp series. Rob’s PEI Fly was 1 of 4 honoured in the series.
